Sweet and Sustainable

IMG_5281.jpeg

Barefoot Beekeeping is dedicated to offering you the highest quality honey through sustainable practices and treatment free beekeeping. We never use chemicals on our hives. We invite predatory insects to manage pests on our flowers and are working towards creating a biodynamic ecosystem here on our farm.

Mission

We are all part of nature.

Save our native pollinators. Support honey bees.

At Barefoot beekeeping we believe that we are deeply connected to nature. For this reason we feel that it is our responsibility to protect or support the natural word, even in small ways. We want to make supporting pollinators accessible to everyone.

Its true, our passion is the honeybee, but we have a plenty of love to go around. We use the sunniest, flattest part of our 5 acre property for a small flower farm. These flowers offer our bees and the local solitary bees an additional food source and they offer us the chance to spread joy and the love of nature through the beauty of flowers.

That's really whats most important to us, supporting nature, spreading joy and enjoying life.

Treatment Free Beekeeping means no chemicals... ever!

Treatment Free Beekeeping

In our apiary and on our farm we do not use any harsh chemicals. This means that we do not treat our bees for pests, but instead rely on the bees to manage the pests on their own through good hygiene practices and genetics. We catch swarms to diversify the genetics from proven overwintered colonies to strengthen our apiary. The varroa mite continues to destroy colonies across America and as its resistance to treatment continues to grow we feel that the best way forward is to skip the treatments and intervention and instead focus on genetics.
